About The Book

Yousef Haik presents the essential components of the design process in Part One of his book and follows with case studies to apply the process in Parts Two and Three. With explicit guidance, students learn that the design process is a set of procedures that will help them solve the engineering problems they encounter. Haik illustrates the critical steps of the design process, including articulating the problem, market analysis, function analysis, developing concepts, evaluating alternatives, and marketing. The content is presented so instructors can alter the sequence without having to change the presentation of the material. To facilitate hands-on learning and teamwork opportunities, the author provides labs and class-tested design projects developed by the author. Realizing that other professors may prefer to use different activities, the author has developed a Web Site for other instructors to submit labs or design projects and make them available to everyone. This Web Site includes a forum for instructors to exchange ideas and activities that encourage students to participate in design activities
